There are two types of online Safeguarding Youth pieces of training:
Mandatory- Safeguarding Youth - Must do.
Continuing Education - Safeguarding Youth - Yearly Refresher
Safeguarding Youth training is required for all BSA registered volunteers and is a joining requirement.
Safeguarding Youth training must be taken every year. If a volunteer’s Safeguarding Youth training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be re-registered.

The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with resources for the Cub Scout.
As a Scouting volunteer, you understand the importance of keeping children safe. A recent bill (AB 506) was passed by the State of California requiring volunteers and staff of Youth Service Organizations to complete training in child abuse and neglect reporting, and undergo Live Scan background checks.
AB 506 goes into effect on January 1, 2022. All registered BSA volunteer positions and employees including camp staff must comply with AB506. In addition, other volunteers who are 18 years of age or older and who have direct contact with, or supervision of, children for more than 16 hours a month or 32 hours per year must complete a Live Scan background check (the digital version of inked fingerprinting) and complete online mandated reporter training.
